The old joke says that you can wait ages for one bus, then three come along at once, is bordering on cliché. But as it turns out, it’s also very true. This analogy is certainly the case for Sherwood Visitor Centre who recently scored a hattrick of awards.
We are delighted for JDDK Architects who fought off competition, at the RICS East Midlands Awards, from across a number of sectors to win the following honours on 15th May, 2019.
RICS 2019 Community Benefit Award
RICS 2019 Tourism and Leisure Award
SVM BSD were privileged to be a part of the design team and part of the success of these initiatives is down to the hard work of the people involved.
The new centre, which is managed by an RSPB-led consortium, opened last August, and features an exhibition space, a shop and a cafe, providing a modern gateway to the ancient forest. The visitor centre is predominantly wooden which creates an overall appealing aesthetic – balancing the building’s functionality that also complements one of the country’s oldest forests.
Every project that was shortlisted for the RICS and LABC awards are all worthy winners; with judges probably finding it difficult to choose a winner from a group of superstar projects.
Securing these awards further underpins the design teams capabilities in delivering projects that are of benefit for everyone to enjoy in years to come.
Once again, a big congratulations to JDDK Architects, Woodhead Construction and all those involved for their commitment in bringing an innovative and important project to fruition, we hope they take every pride in their achievement. \lsdlocked0 L
