Sandwell Council, in partnership with Sandwell Leisure Trust, Sandwell Primary Care Trust and Sandwell L.I.F.T Company instructed the demolition of the original Oldbury Leisure Centre to make way for the new Portway Lifestyle Centre.
BSD provided detailed Mechanical & Electrical Design Consultancy services for the new leisure centre.
This included heating and mechanical ventilation, passive and natural ventilation. Public Health Services for above ground drainage, mains water distribution, domestic hot and cold-water services.
Electrical Services incorporated electrical distribution & metering, general lighting, general power, fire alarms, access control, external lighting, lighting & power and electrical services associated with the mechanical installations.
We provided Co-ordination of Plant areas, Risers, routes and BWIC for Mechanical, Electrical & Public Health Services with the Design Team.
In order to achieve low energy use, for the centre, we included the an IES thermal modelling assessment.
Portway Lifestyle Centre has become a facility for the whole community to enjoy and a centre of excellence for people with disabilities.
The £15 million centre is one of the first in the country to offer integrated health, sport and leisure facilities as a purpose-built site for a GP surgery.
