Full detailed Mechanical and Electrical design services for the Construction of a new Advanced Manufacturing & Engineering learning centre, on Harlow College campus.
Harlow College has advanced in a technical partnership with one of the largest CNC manufacturers in the world, who wanted to provide the Centre with state-of-the-art equipment and technical expertise.
Essex County Council played a crucial part in providing the funding for this scheme, alongside the South East Local Enterprise Partnership and Harlow College themselves.
The project involved the integration of numerous specialist manufacturing equipment units. The co-ordination of these items, along with the general services in a building with limited ceiling voids, presented the design team with significant challenges.
Due to the nature of the scheme, the amount of manufacturing equipment meant that all the teaching areas had to be very heavily serviced. The majority of the services had to be installed at high-level and the lack of ceiling voids meant we had to carefully co-ordinate routes.
In order to overcome any possibility of reworks, BSD spent a significant amount of time on site ensuring the installations were monitored.
BSD were able to create an efficient building services design strategy. The college is now a well-established Advanced Manufacturing & Engineering Centre, that will be beneficial to both staff and students.
