- KELSTON HOSPITALITY STAND -720 SQM
- THE LANGRDIGE STAND – 1500 SQM
The refurbishment of the existing hospitality boxes and the construction of an additional new grandstand building within the grounds of bath racecourse.
Both incorporating food and beverage facilities. Both projects were fundamental in safeguarding the future of the track.
The existing four storey structure included refurbishment of the ground floor bar area and 9 private hospitality suites on the upper floors. In addition to the hospitality facilities the building accommodates the steward’s box, judge’s box, photo finish camera and commentator’s facility.
The new grandstand development includes a ground-floor public bar, and a 200-seat restaurant.
Initial feasibility studies had identified a need for additional spectator areas. The new grandstand was designed with flexibility in mind to provide a much wider range of activities. These now include a wedding venue and conference facilities.
BSD duties included full mechanical and electrical design duties.
A dynamic thermal model study for the refurbishment of the existing stand, to validate that the revised design met the internal air quality criteria set-out in CIBSE Guide A.
The site lies within the green belt area, between bath and Bristol. Consideration had to be measured throughout the design process from an ecological and environmental perspective due to the course being situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
BSD had to conduct upfront surveys, some of which at night, for light pollution. For example, safety lights did not interfere with the surrounding area and did not ruin the overall look of the natural environment.
